Where to take Dad for 75th b-day near Towson?

Hi,
I'll be visiting from Boston over the Thanksgiving holiday, and it's also my Dad's 75th birthday. Any recommendations for a nice place that would be open Wed or Fri that's near Towson? Not too ethnic (Italian would be ok). Cost not a big consideration; would want to have a reservation to avoid a wait.
Thanks!

  1. You may want to try Cafe Troia in the heart of Towson. Delicious Italian food in a lovely environment. And, it isn't the typical Southern Italian cuisine, heavy on red sauce. Fantastic veal chop--fresh salmon over ravioli in a light sauce. Many enticing options.

Also, Christopher Daniel in the Timonium are (just a few minutes north of Towson). Many fine options, including fried green tomatoes, lamb chops, crabcakes, etc.

A menu that isn't over reaching in any specific area and definitely not ethnic.

You are so luck to be celebrating a 75th birthday with your Dad--wish him the best. And, Happy Thanksgiving also. FoiGras

The Peppermill. He will LOVE it there!

Steaks & Seafood. Other non-meat options too. Perfect atmosphere.

Pappas on Taylor ave in Parkville offers better food, I think, than the Peppermill, and the same... errr... mature atmosphere.

IMO, Pappas is a dingy bar. Peppermill is a nicer restaurant. But hey,

Pappas has a pub side and a restaurant side. But either way. I like their crabcakes better, that's all I know. I don't think I'd go to either for a birthday, however.

    2. I definitely agree with FoiGras-- Cafe Troia would be perfect. In addition to wonderful Italian food, the restaurant feels like a "special occasions" place: beautiful decor and very polished servers.

      1. My 90 year old mother loves the Oregon Grille, just off I-83. Good food, lovely place in a horse-set way, and they are used to older guests. perfect for your visit.

cannot recommend Peppermill for either food or atmosphere, and cafe Troia is a bit downscale as well.

I would never call Cafe Troia downscale...........

Thanks for all your suggestions! He goes to Troia and Pappas all the time, so that wouldn't really be "special". So no real "home run" yet. I remember he used to like Tio Pepe - is that still around, and good? Or does it spark any other ideas?

            1. re: Guido

Tio Pepe is still around and still good, but not very close to Towson. If you are willing to travel a bit, there are lots and lots of other option.

I think the Oregon Grill suggestion was a good one. I'd also suggest Chameleon Cafe. It's in Lauraville which is in the City, but not all that far from Pappas.

There is also Bluestone in Timonium. It's not my favorite, but it's dependable. It tends to be favored by older folks.

What about Sabor? Based on your original post, I wouldn't have suggested it, but if dad liked Tio Pepe....

        2. Perhaps you might consider the Milton Inn. I was a bit disappointed the last time I dined there, but it usually has fairly good cuisine and the atmosphere is nice. FoiGras

Has anyone ever not been disappointed by Milton Inn?

Yes, I was disappointed several years ago. Not bad, but not worth a 25 minute trip to get to. I do have fond memories of the place from yesteryear, hwever.

          2. Michael's in Timonium might fit the bill
