95th Birthday Luncheon

Hi All,

I'm planning to host a luncheon (or brunch) on a Sunday in December for my mother who is turning 95 and sharper than I am. Can any of you recommend a restaurant in Manhattan with a private room that can accommodate approximately 45 people? I'd like to keep it under $80 a person, tax and tip included. Any neighborhood is fine--the only limitation is that there can't be a large flight of stairs. Thanks for your help.

I am planning a similar affair...where did you end up?

You could take over a small restaurant like Café Joul (1st bet 58 & 59). The ladies room (and men's) are on the main floor. Don't forget to ask where the facilities are when you check out restos. Dealt with this problem for my parents for many years - it's not just the entry stairs that you have to think about. Café Joul actually does a big brunch business, so they may not want to close for you, but it's worth asking.

Another place in the neighborhood is Luna Piena (Italian - 53rd bet 2nd & 3rd) where they could give you the entire "garden" area (it's enclosed) and they have facilities on the main floor.

Excellent point about the restrooms--I definitely have to take that into consideration. Thanks for the suggestions.

If you like Italian, look into Lupa. Their private dining rates for lunch look reasonable.
