Has anyone been here yet? Here's their website:

http://www.basilny.com/

I'm hoping to check it out next weekend. Looks promising.

Yeah, good article today in the times. I just moved to the neighborhood and it was on my radar (but very low) until the article. Bruni doesn't really discuss the food quality as much as the neighborhood dynamic, so I'd love to hear from someone who's been.

it's frustrating that there are no pictures of the pie on the web.

Found this kosher blog. Guy tries the pizza but takes pictures of everything but....oy! http://kosherscene.wordpress.com/2010...

Also see this intense (and entertaining) comments section: http://www.vosizneias.com/62959/2010/...

Searched around for a pic of the pie...nothin! Guess I'll just have to go down there myself at some point.

I too thought that the absence of food descriptins in bruni's article was surprising/disheartening, and would have liked to see at least an in-passing mention that the food was worthwhile (or were we supposed to assume as much becasue they bothered with the story?)

as for pizza pics, from the "press" section of their site:

there are some brief shots around the 1 minute mark, it looks pretty good (the nutella pie the reporter holds up at the end, not so much) the oven looks interesting and not like my favorite wood-fired places, it almost looks like its a gas-assist oven (could it be one of those "Wood-stone" brand ovens ive heard about, i think i read a sf bay area thread where a restaurant was accused of claiming its woodstone brand oven was a wood oven, or at least letting customers roll with the confusion.)

I stand corrected and apologize for the omission. Here is a review with photos of Basil's pizza: http://kosherscene.wordpress.com/2010....
