Akasha restaurant week dinnner

the fig/pomegranate salad LOVELY

THE Pan Seared Australian Sea Bass / Gremolata
shell bean / cherry tomato ragout / swiss chard COMPLETELY INSIPID AND FORGETTABLE.
(makes one realize why, when in mexico nobody ever served me beans and fish.)
the lack of flavor overall, the way the flavor of the beans flattened whatever flavor the fish might have had, together made for a nothing dish)
COMPLETELY INSIPID AND FORGETTABLE.

the See Canyon Organic Apple Pie Bar butter pecan ice cream
VERY GOOD BUT NOTHING I'D DRIVE ACROSS TOWN TO EAT

my dining companions REALLY LIKED the Flourless Chocolate Nut Torte
chocolate ganache / candied hazelnuts, / cardamom ice cream

I had a turkey burger at Akasha and thought it was subpar.

question, have you been to Akasha before, and if so, did you enjoy it? i ask because when i mentioned to a friend that i've been wanting to go, she said it's underwhelming and overpriced...and some random couple standing nearby who happened to overhear our conversation both agreed with her.

i'm just wondering if your RW meal was representative of a typical experience there, because if it was i can cross it off my list!

this was my first and probably last time there.
if it was less expensive, maybe i'd give it another try, but for this much money i'm not willing to roll the dice again.
it wasn't bad, mind you, it just wasn't nearly good enough to justify the calories and the expense.

i should have noted that my daughter did say nice things about the very generous portion of lamb sirloin that they served to her, but i didn't taste it myself. it may be that they just do better with meat, but the fish dish, which is what was ordered by most of the folks in my party, was unforgivable even at the restaurant-week-price.

for me personally, the fish dish was made worse by comparison because i had a really great whitefish entree at lilly's french cafe (abbott kinney in venice) on monday night as part of their restaurant week offering.

Thanks for the report. Akasha's onion rings were featured on 'The Best Thing I Ever Ate', so I was looking forward to a weekend lunch. But given the weak reviews I think I'll skip it. Such a let down to pay up for a mediocre meal. I want to go to the manager and demand my time, my money and my appetite back.

We LOVE Akasha's onion rings, but overall, have found her meals to be uneven. We like to keep it simple and go to lunch and get her excellent rice bowls...

              Is it still open?!
              Thought it had closed.

well considering that Westside gal's RW review was from dinner just last night, i think it's a safe bet the place is still open ;)
