Possible Engagement Dinner - Last Minute

Due to various circumstances - the gf and I will find ourselves in NY on Sunday for 4 nights

Looking for a world class meal on Monday night to celebrate our engagement.

Some parameters:

- price not really an object
- not really interested in Per Se (my gf is not really a fan of tasting menus)
- not really interested in Japanese (love it, but not for this meal)
- visited Daniel last year and really liked it but would prefer something new
- should be romantic setting (of course)

Eleven Madison Park sounds great but opentable shows no available reservations.

People on the board don't seem that enthused about Jean George and Le Bernadin (maybe a bit stiff? - we'll be in good spirits and don't want to worry about making too much noise)

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Look at OpenTable? I see early tables at Aldea, Blue Hill, Craft, The Modern, and others.

You might want to call Eleven Madison Park; I've heard that they don't release all of their reservations to OpenTable. Congratulations!

If EMP doesn't work out, I highly recommend Bouley: wonderful food, attentive service and one of the most beautiful rooms in NYC.

They might also offer to put you on the wait list for Monday. Don't forget that some people cancel last minute! I'd make sure to call again on Monday see if there were cancellations.

Jean George and Le Bernadin are both outstanding and both would be a great place to celebrate. You might consider some lesser rated restaurants that is less upscale such as Babbo, Del Posto, Balthazar, Gramercy Tavern and Gotham Bar and Grill. Hearth would be a great choice also. Or Allegretti. I wish you and the young lady the best. Good luck.

Le Bernardin is too stiff for this occasion. J-G would work. Hearth is too loud and not romantic enough. Balthazar is like eating in a train station, it's so loud, and the tables are so close together. Gramercy Tavern would work, but in the dining room not in the front room.

          Allegretti is closed.
