south shore girls night
So, I grew up on the SS but moved into Boston 6 years ago. While I go back to vist family, I have no idea where to go for some good food and fun. I'm taking out my brothers fiancee and the rest of the bridal party this weekend and need some suggestions. She lives in Weymouth so somewhere around there would be nice. We could go down to Cohasset, but I think Plymouth is the farthest they would like to go. Any help would be great!!

The other Whalberg brother is apparently a pretty good chef and he, with his brother(s?) has opened a restaurant in the Hignham Shipyard. Sounds like a sceney type place with good food, cocktails and people hanging by a fire pit. Name escapes me and I'm too lazy right now to look for it.

That would be Alma Nova. I haven't tried it yet, but have heard and seen video of the place. It looks beautiful. The feedback I've gotten from friends, however, has been somewhat mediocre. That surprises me because he had a really good reputation when he was at Bridgemans. That said, I think one of the best places in the area is the Fat Cat in Quincy. The limitation there, though, is that it's a pretty small place. Maybe someone with first hand knowledge of Alma Nova will post.

I've been to Alma Nove, Alba and Fat Cat (often) and of the three my pick would Fat Cat if your party is less than 6. Alma Nove, while beautiful, has some service issues and for the prices, I don't think the quality (or quantity either, for that matter) are there. Alba would work nicely if you want a more formal outing but as a fan of the Cat I'll say it's a more laid back, casual atmosphere, but it is small and if you want a table for 6 you'll need to get there early as they don't take reservations.
Tosca in Hingham would work nicely, too.
