Chinese Delivery Cambridge and surrounding towns

Hi Everyone:

Occasionally, like most people, we enjoy some delivered Chinese food. We live in North Cambridge, right near Quingdao Garden but have been disappointed with the food the last few times. Any suggestions for good delivery from Arlington, Cambridge, Somerville etc. that will deliver to North Cambridge? Thanks for your help!

We live on the Cambridge / Somerville line, and recently had a delivery from House of Chang -- it was really good, although quite salty. Pork spare ribs. spicy tofu, and a noodle dish.

I depend on Zoe's first, but have ordered Wang's too (to Inman Square area). When I want more Americanized Chinese I have been very happy with Wok and Roll, on foodler. They do a nice job without using too much oil.

seconding Wok 'n Roll. Great vegetarian options (if you're into that) and dinner combos are a good value.

3rd on wok and roll. Started a thread a few years ago about tried and true favorites, but it never really took off. Was inspired after being away from the area for about 7 years and went to wok and roll my first week back. It was exactly the same quality and preparation as I remembered. With the usual chow caveat that is very Americanized.

I know Mulan delivers to Kendall and Central, I would check it out.

Wang's on broadway in Somerville should deliver to you. They have good dumplings and if you order from their chef's specials section, pretty good food.

I was disappointed with Wang's the one time I ordered from there, but thanks to CH I keep a regular stock of their frozen dumplings now, which are indeed excellent.

Which frozen dumplings do you like best? I tried their pork and leek and found them to be bland although the wrappers were excellent.

keep in mind that wang's is enormously inconsistent. some of their dishes are very good, and some are really pretty terrible. it's kind of frustrating trying to figure out which is which.

Their shrimp and pork dumplings are my favorite, and on weekends, the steamed meat buns. As far as the rest of their menu, my favorites are the dry-sauteed green beans, the diced chicken with chili peppers, and the shredded beef with green peppers.

I think we agree, but I just want to clarify --- Wang's menu is inconsistent, but their execution is very consistent. In other words, not every dish on their menu is good, but the dishes that are good are consistently good, and the dishes that are bad, are consistently bad.

Some of their best dishes include:

                      Vegetarian Leek Dumplings
                      Szechuan Style Bone-in Chicken
Spareribs with Spiced Salt & Pepper
                      Vegetarian Leek Pie
                      Sweet and Sour Shredded Turnip
                      Roast Beef Soup Noodle
                      Preserved Egg with Tofu
                      Sesame Cold Noodles
                      Beef Teriyaki
Cumin Lamb (from the specials board)

In general, though I don't think it's too hard to tell what's good and not-so-good at Wang's. Almost everything on the new "insert" menu ("Northern Pasta" on one side and "House Specials" on the other side) is quite good, except for the fish dishes. Most of what's on the other menu, except for Beef Teriyaki, Sesame Cold Noodles, and the vegetable dishes, is not as good.

I think that while Wang's has lost some of their luster from ten years ago, and there is now much stiffer competition in the authentic Chinese food market in the Boston area, they are still one of the best.

Totally agree that Wang's is NOT in fact inconsistent; order what they obviously specialize in, AVOID Americanized Chinese junk (which they feel Kowloon-obliged <I just invented a word> to serve) and they have been Very consistent over the years.

I live in a different part of Cambridge, so not all options will be the same for us. 99% of the time I will only order via Foodler, so I'm also limiting to foodler avaialable options. Depending on my mood and what I'm looking for, 99% of my foodler based chinese delivery is either Zoe's, Chilli Garden or Noodle Stix. I will once in a while order from thailand cafe (sichuan, not thai) but they're not on foodler and have a habit of screwing up my orders when I call it in - which is the exact sort of thing which has led me to my foodler-only policy.
