Pearl's Cupcakes; Richmond, VA
so I finally made it in to this little place at Libbie and Grove yesterday and had to post because the cupcake I had was so incredible. many of the types they had looked delicious - not over the top - and the decorated examples they had out were adorable. But I had one of the day's specials, a brown butter pumpkin cupcake and it literally ranks up there with the best things i've ever eaten.
moist, delicious, not too sweet pumpkin cake with a brown butter pumpkin glaze icing. perfection.
other specials included a mexican chocolate and a chocolate peanut butter and chocolate raspberry. they had the pumpkin in a gluten free as well. they had several different "regular" types to choose from and you could order milk or coffee as well. i can't stop thinking about this cupcake - i will definitely be back. maybe today. :)
I am so glad to hear this. This is very close to my husband's office! I can't wait to try it out!
okay so i've been back and tried a few more varieties.
the cherry pie - vanilla cupcake with cherry pie filling and cream cheese icing. yum.
the pearl cocoa - chocolate cupcake (insanely good cake) with seven minute frosting and coconut. good but on the sweet side.
the gluten free version of the pumpkin brown butter - only do this if you can't eat gluten. not a good substitute in my opinion.
the basic (vanilla with buttercream) - dense with sweet icing. not as sweet as some places. over all good. bet the chocolate with buttercream is really good.
spiced sweet potato with pecans and marshmallow filing/icing - not my thing. but i bet if you like sweet potato casseroles you'd love this.
double chocolate - looked divine. my kids wouldn't let me taste it.
I also went for the first time this weekend. (Actually,I went twice because it was so good!!) I'm a huge Two Sweet fan but was in Westhampton and stopped by. Had the Cherry Pie, Carrot, Sweet Potato, Oreo, and Strawberry Fields. Loved them all. Thought the Sweet Potato was one of the best I've ever had. Strongly recommend.
Okay and since I'm apparently doing the cupcake tour of richmond...
went to babycakes in carytown today. don't like the name but the blueberry cupcake with lemon buttercream was divine. not overly sweet at all.
my mom said her vanilla with coconut and buttercream icing was yummy too.
check them out!
First time visit today, picked up a half dozen sunshine (vanilla bean cake with lemon curd center and seven minute frosting with fresh lemon zest). Delicious!!!!! This will definitely be a place to hit once every couple of weeks to try new ones. Then after a while narrow down to a top 5.
just have to say that i have continued to be impressed with this place. for thanksgiving we had the most adorable turkey cake - chocolate with rice crispie treat legs and fondant feathers. yummy too. for a birthday tea party we had mini cupcakes and snowflake cookies that were amazing. and for a january holiday party they did the cutest snowman cake - a chocolate giant cupcake head with a carrot cake 4" layer and a red velvet 6" layer. all covered in the most amazing cream cheese icing ever. and decorated SO adorably! will attach some photos as i have them.
