New Orleanians road trippin to PDX; lookin for yummy vegan fare

  • 9

Hi all,

My boyfriend and I are taking a road trip to Portland (staying 3 days) in mid December, and we're looking for some wallet and palate friendly veg joints in the area. I've heard that Portland is THE spot for veg eaters, and I've seen a few highly reviewed places while perusing the 'net, but if anyone could give us the lowdown on some REALLY GOOD eats, that'd be awesome!

Also, any advice on places with really good drinks (best breweries, best signature Portland drink, etc..) would be appreciated as well! Thanks in advance for the help!

  1. Here is a good place to start"

The bakery in that group does a breakfast buffet, at least on Sundays.

Also the food carts on N. Missippi has some really delicious vegan food.

      1. Portabello!!!!! So delicious really worth it, the Beermongers is in the same complex, and Apex Beer Garden is across the street. I think the Nitro cream ale is ambrosia...and you can sit outside and drink your beer without cig smoke!
I would also check out the tofu taco@Koi fusion..get it with xtra kimchee..it is a taste explosion!

Ah! I have been reading great things about Portobello!! Will definitely have to stop there.. as well as the Apex Beer Garden. Splendid! Thank you so much guys! These links are also mucho helpful. Cheers!

        2. Blossoming Lotus is a favorite of mine in NE Portland and I'm not vegan. And there are some vegan foodcarts that you should definitely seek out - a few in the Mississippi / Skidmore pod that I've tried and liked.

I agree about Mississippi marketplace carts, and they have Prost as their Anchor, so you can have German beer, too..Native Bowl....so, so good!

Yeah, I'm not a vegan, but I think Native Bowl is pretty darn good for what it is (if you like the rice bowl thing). My notes from my last visit:

"I was surprised at how good the vegan bowls from Native Bowl were. The peanut sauce on one of them was very good, but the tofu and mixed veggies were very good and fresh and there was a nice 1" or so layer of rice to soak up the tasty sauces at the bottom. Not the kind of thing I would order, usually, but these were the best things of this kind I have had. The chocolate cake cups from here (also vegan) were surprisingly good too, and a fairly inexpensively priced treat for how rich and chocolatey a thing you get (chocolate cake with ganache-y fudge-y sauce in a paper cup)."

Mississippi Marketplace is a good cart pod.

Ruby Dragon also has vegan fare in that pod. I had a good quinoa pancake with berries and syrup there once.
