Best restaurants in Saugatuck/Douglas-S. Haven, MI?
My wife and I are staying in South Haven for our anniversary in a couple of weeks. Looking for a really special dinner experience in the area. My wife does not eat red meat or pork but fish/seafood and dairy are fine. Romantic setting (i.e. lake view) would be a plus, however food quality is obviously Priority #1. We love a great value but for this occasion might be willing to say "price-no-option" for somewhere really, truly unique and superior (a la Tapawingo, for those who have had the privilege). Appreciate any help!

SOTE has been consistently good for us -- we've been a dozen or so times since it opened. Interesting food, very solidly done (generally). sometimes they haven't quite mastered the wood burning brick oven, so some pizzas have dissappointed.

I've been to Everyday People Cafe a bunch of times, and it has always been absolutely superb. The one thing I'll add, though, is to go early; they don't take reservations, and waits can be lengthy. When I was there last week, on a Thursday, we walked right in at 5:30, but by the time we left around 7, the wait for a table was 60-90 minutes. Yes, on a weekday, in the off season.
I wrote a detailed report in the Saugatuck topic at http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/413534 and it's still as applicable (and the restaurant is still as great) as it was when I wrote it.

Consistency has to go to EPC at this point. Probably won't go wrong at either. Personally? EPC, Matt was one of the first people I met when I moved here in '93.
