Two and a half days in Chicago
My boyfriend and I will be in Chicago for a weekend in a couple of weeks. We are young (22 + 24), hungry, and carless, staying in Lakeview/Wrigleyville. Neither of us really know Chicago at all. Recs for good, cheap eats and drinks around town? We are happy to take buses and trains to things that are worth going to, obviously. I will insist on going to a Bayless restaurant (probably Xoco, hopefully for breakfast early Saturday morning), but other than that, I'm not sure what to do--Alinea will only happen in my dreams, and I don't love hot dogs. In Lakeview I've read good things about the secret Thai menu at Tac Quick, and might look into Chilam Balam (especially if Xoco doesn't happen). We like everything, especially if it's a delicious bargain, and it would be amazing if someone recommended a bar with good music and cheap beer. Thanks in advance!

Get on the Red Line and get off at Argyle. Go to Sun Wah for amazing food. That neighborhood is Uptown and you'll find lots of Vietnamese places to eat at if Sun Wah doesn't interest you. Then walk south on Broadway until you get to the Green Mill and have a cocktail and listen to some jazz. Classic Chicago bar that Capone allegedly had ties to. If you don't want Vietnamese food, check out Derma for Eithopian pretty much across the street from the Green Mill. Cheap eats plus a geniune Chicago experience. CAVEAT: that neighborhood can be rough at night. I'd take a cab home if you'll be drinking.
