dinner with a view
I'm looking for a suggestion for a Portland downtown restaurant that would have great food, romantic atmosphere and a wonderful view. We will only have one dinner there as our trip will be to the wine country. Thanks.

Just went to noble rot last weekend and if you can get there early enough to sit outside there is a great view of downtown Portland. They had great food and an interesting wine selection as well.

A great "view" experience can be found at the Portland City Grill. It is on the 31st floor and has spectacular city views. We have dined there a half dozen times and have always found the food to be excellent.

Both of the previous responses are right - awesome views! I'd add Chart House. It's a chain, and the parking is valet, which bugs me. And frankly, I've never eaten there - only been there for drinks. But the view is excellent.

The Chart House has terrible food. That chain is just getting by on having some nice locations.

Beaker & Flask has a pretty nice view, if you can get one of the end booths that curve alonge the arced window. Furthermore, the food is terrific. PCG and The Chart House are highly suspect food wise(in PCG's case I am being rather forgiving.)
Noble Rot is a terrific suggestion.
Departure on the top floor of the Nines Hotel has a couple decent views but the large majority of them are blocked by buildings.

Personally, if I had one dinner in Portland, I wouldn't waste it on Portland City Grill or Chart House, or even Noble Rot. The first two certainly and the third mostly exist only for the view, not the food. The food at Beaker and Flask is light years better than the other suggestions. The view there is pretty pleasant, but it's not as jaw dropping as the others.

In Portland, or anywhere, if you are at a romantic place, the best view is that face across the table...
