Recommendation for restaurant in DC/ Alexandria (National Harbor) for Friday night

We will be attending the early show of Ovo at the National Harbor and would like recommendations on places to eat. We don't mind driving about 20 minutes, would go 30 for good food. Type of food less important than taste, except not really into seafood. Love Mexican, Italian and Indian or Thai. Would like to spend $30 or less per plate. Drinks would be nice but not important. Two people. Thanks.

  1. I think you would enjoy Mai Thai in Old Town Alexandria. You can take the water taxi from national harbor to the alexandria harbor. Mai Thai is just steps from the docks.

Thanks daves! We'll try them. I've been wanting some good thai food.

      Follow up:

THE GOOD: Husband really liked the Duck Appetizer. It did have interesting flavor but was far too tough for me to enjoy. The red PANANG chicken curry had a decent flavor.

THE BAD: The TOM KA coconut soup was the worst!! Not hot, watery, too limey, no galangal taste (which is what I love) with half rotted cilantro. How does the cilantro at a Thai restaurant ever have the time to turn black? The STEAMED DUMPLINGS with shrimp, crab etc were terrible! I ate 1 and then half just to make sure it was as bad as I thought. The seafood GREEN CURRY was gross! I ate one scallop. It was the worst scallop I've ever eaten. Tough and chewy outside with no flavor, while the middle released water. Disgusting. We got sick from the seafood! I suffered from the most evil belching on the hour and a half car ride home. In fact, I nearly tossed my cookies on the drive home. The only reason I didn't was because I had my husband doing acupressure on me for the last half hour. Husband had terrible rumbling down below. Once we stepped through the threshold, hubby ran for the bathroom while I immediately took a bunch of herbs for upset stomach and food poisoning! Still, as we walked the dog, I thought for sure I was going to hurl but hubby started to press P6 again. I almost wish he had let me just rid my body of the nastiness because nausea lingered into the morning and I'm waiting for the food to work it's way though. They were skimpy with the curry sauce! The chicken in the soup and curry was tough. The THAI TIGER drink with vodka and ginger syrup didn't even taste like ginger. The Malibu Monsoon was cloyingly sweet. The service was terrible. Loud, cramped atmosphere.

I am really sorry about that. I went last sunday on a weekly dinner with my friend. I was really underwhelmed as well. I hope you will accept my apologies and take my suggestions in the future.

The good news is that if you can wait until the spring, Virtue Feed and Grain will also be steps from the docks. It is going to be a gastropub style place from the Armstrongs (Restaurant Eve, Majestic, Eamonns, PX, etc). That is llkely to be excellent

Read good things about Restaurant Eve but nothing on the menu really appealed to me.

Sure! I looked it up, read some reviews, read the menu and took a chance...that's the best we can do.

Golly, maybe it wasn't the seafood. I was so certain that it was the seafood which causes me such gastric distress because I frequently cannot eat farm-raised seafood, that I foolishly ate my left over red curry. Now my belly is doing flip-flops and rumbling. On that note, I think that we will definitely steer clear of that restaurant.
