Holiday dinner for about 20+ - Oakland/Berkeley/SF Downtown

It is planning time, and I need to throw some suggestions into the pot. Ideally the location has a private room that can accommodate us, but a workable portion of a dining room will work, too. To give you an idea of price and style, here's where things have been the past few years: (Typically they'll arrange with the restaurant for a limited menu where we will have a choice of 3 or 4 items from each portion of the regular menu.)

(1) Lark Creek. The portion of the dining room we had worked well. The place was already on the downward slide, however.
(2) Lalime's. This was a great dinner, but that year we all fit in the little upstairs room. The hosts would return if they thought a portion of the downstairs could be configured in a more conducive arrangement.
(3) Rivoli. Another great dinner, but the seating arrangement was not the best.
(4) Ad Hoc. Another great dinner, but out of the range for this year.
(5) Wood Tavern. I really liked it, but I could tell some others didn't, and the space was awkward for the group.

So there you have it. My initial thoughts are:
(1) Town Hall - they have a private room upstairs, but I don't know if we are too large or too small. (Downstairs is way too noisy)
(2) Camino
(3) CP Cafe

Thanks for your input.

  1. Bocanova might be fun for a holiday party. Lots of parking, decent view and prices and close to Trappist for pre-dinner beers!

    1. We had a holiday lunch at Town Hall a couple of years back. I think our group was bigger than yours, so your group is definitely not too big -- might be too small, but that probably depends on whether you'll meet their minimum $$. I remember the food as being pretty good -- we had passed appetizers and then a plated lunch.

      1. slanted door and spruce has a private room. and i've been to a work dinner for about 20 people at ozumo as well which we enjoyed. it was a fixed menu but open bar option.

        1. Someone just posted about the new private room that they have at the new Zut on 4th (the old Eccolo space). I haven't been there yet, but have heard reports of good food from people that I trust (and since they're a new restaurant, they're probably not booked yet and may have good pricing). I've been to a holiday lunch at the upstairs at Town Hall and enjoyed it, definitely not noisy like the downstairs and the food was good; I remember the space as being kind of bland, though.

No private room at Zut. The "intimate banquette seating semi-private room for up to 20 people" must be the back section more or less straight in from the entrance. It's probably about as private as the upstairs section of Lalime's.

          2. I've been working with someone at Pican about setting up a private event and they have been very helpful. I think their private room which is just off the main restaurant can hold up to 40 people, though I got the impression that they were already booking up pretty quickly for events in December.
