I buy mine from Costco all the time (though not on the West Side). Just look for a good cut.

Don't know if there's a Westside Costco. We got some Ahi at the Burbank store today. Really fresh, had some as sashimi for dinner.

                -+@#%%*$!!

Thumbs up or down may work fine for juries and country-club membership committees, but the rest of us need more information. How about a few details, Hounds? E.g., what's so good about Safe and Save and so bad about SM Seafood?

wilafur, that link drops you into the bit bucket without a snorkel. Try this one:

                    http://tinyurl.com/34g42b9

For those with morbid curiosity: you left off the final "s" in the selection you gave to tinyurl.

Getting back to the point, I don't care where yelpers stand on Safe and Save or what the store thinks of itself. I'm interested in why you, maudies5, vinosnob, joshekg, and other Hounds like the place. How about it??

lmgtfy is a bit snarky, i was trying to link you directly to the safe and save market reviews on yelp.

                      http://www.yelp.com/biz/safe-and-save...

in a nutshell, service is excellent, their fish is uber fresh, however, the only downfall (if you consider it one) is that they have a small fresh fish selection. all in all, an excellent mom and pop neighborhood store that does fresh fish well.

Thanks, I'll try it, in part because I just made a cioppino after shopping at SM Seafood (the Costa Mesa store) and didn't find their fish and seafood to be beyond "good," although the selection was great and the service was very nice.

Seriously, wilafur nailed it. I would only add that their prices are very reasonable as well.

You got it just right. Although the selection is limited, one knows that the fish is pristinely fresh. I have never had anything but perfect fish. Bonus: free parking next door. Also, someone mentioned Granada Market. Granada is the BEST place in that neighborhood to buy fresh crab, when in season.

Don't think so. Also, Granada is very very particular about the crabs they select. If the boss doesn't think that they are perfect, no crabs that day.
