Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in France (including Paris, Nice, Bordeaux, Burgundy, and Marseilles)

Any lunch recommendations between Bordeaux and Pays Basque?

I will be driving from Bordeaux to St. Etienne de Baigorry on a Friday afternoon and would appreciate any ideas on where to eat along the way. Anything from oysters in a marketplace to a Michelin-starred experience would be welcome. Thank you.

  1. Olhabidea outside Sare.
Kaiku in the heart of St Jean de Luz.
Both are real restaurants, which means you can have a meal there, not a mid-afternoon snack.
Both are in wonderful settings and environment, esp the former.

In the St Jean de Luz Halles there is a merchant selling oysters and glasses of Juranson sec, a pretty nice combo if you're looking for a quick oyster fix instead of a full meal.

    2. I don't have a map in front of me but La Recreation in Les Arques is wonderful (the book From Here You Can't See Paris is about the beginnings of this restaurant). Further south way down in Condom (sorry how could we NOT go there?) is the fabulous La Table des Cordeliers. Not 100% sure if they're open for lunch, we went for dinner.

Les Arcs is near Cahors in the Lot, sort of a detour from the road from the route from Bordeaux to the Basque country
