Will be in Montpelier this weekend and was hoping to go to Hen on Wood in Waterbury. Can't get a reservation. What would be a comparable alternative in town/

My favorite place in Montpelier is The Black Door http://www.blackdoorvt.com. Other good options are:
Skinny Pancake http://www.skinnypancake.com, a good crêperie.
Main Street Grill http://www.neci.edu/main-street-grill/index, a restaurant run by the culinary institute; can be very good on a good day, but it can be uneven since it's done by students.
Tasca http://plainfieldtasca.com/, a tapas place about 20 minutes away in Plainfield

Thanks. The Black Door sounded perfect for us but they are closed on Sundays, when we will be in Montpelier. Anything else?

Tasca is open on Sundays. We just ate there Monday (gonna do a review soon) and really enjoyed it. It's not as high end as Hen of the Wood, but it's very good.

Other possibilities (but again, not as high end as Hen of the Wood) are Sarducci's and Thai Orchid.
