suggestions please for this weekend!

Looking for recommendations for this weekend. We are coming to the city with two boys, ages 7 and 5, both great eaters and willing to try anything.

Our plans so far for lunch are:
-Channai Garden (do they serve the buffet lunch on the weekends too?)
-Szechuan Gourmet

For dinner, we plan on hitting the Halal cart one night, and Ali Baba's another night.

We're just looking for recommendations for Sunday night. Any suggestions? Will try almost anything, but need to keep within a budget (under 30/pp). Please no chains and preferrably not Italian.

Last trip we tried Fatty Crab, Kefi, and others, and Kefi was great.....

Thank you very much for your help.

    1. I don't know if Chennai Garden has a buffet lunch on weekends, but I don't recommend it, anyway, though I do recommend that restaurant. You'll get better food if you order it and have it made for you. I think daffyduck's recommendation of Katz's is excellent. Great pastrami, so much history, and so many photos of celebrities on the wall.

I think your ideas for lunch are all good. Keep in mind that Taim isn't much of an eat-in place, though there is a very small amount of counter space inside and one bench outside.

If you want to try a good Cantonese place, consider South China Garden, 22 Elizabeth St. True, you can't get that much food, given that it sounds like you are two adults and two children, but you could still get a combination of excellent versions of common items (Yang Chow Fried Rice, Orange Flavor Beef) and some more unusual combinations (for example, the Pea Shoots with Double Egg [accompanied by century egg and egg drop over chopped meat - I believe, pork] that I got one time, or dishes with frog, if you like it, etc.).
