I think this person means Eleven Madison Park.

Many on the board are EMP shippers, including myself. What might be better than just asking which you should go to is to provide what you're specifically hoping to get out of the meal (atmosphere, type of cuisine, etc.)

I haven't been to Del Posto in the past year, so I really can't comment on whether it's 4-star review is warranted now. But to answer your question about can Sifton be wrong, I often find I disagree with his star ratings.

Just returned from 10 days of playing in NYC. EMP was one of the best meals we have ever had. Coming from N.O. we have tried all the top restaurants, and were disappointed by the food at Per Se. Eleven Madison has atmosphere, beautiful presentation, incredible food and service, with lots of surprises thrown in for the fabulous tasting menu. The waiter was well informed and patiently told us of our options. Great place for special occasion, or it will be one.

While I've never been to Del Posto, I have been to Eleven Madison Park (EMP) many times (once since the new format was introduced). EMP is one of my most favorite restaurants because it manages to have some of the best food in a beautiful dining room with the best service in any NYC restaurant. I'm sure Del Posto is good, but EMP is great!

I have been to EMP 7/8 times and DP more often than that. I would go to DP in a heart beat. It's one of NYC's finest restaurants. EMP is a great restaurant but DP has that feel that's different. It's more casual and more fun. Have a great BD no matter where you go.

If by "that feel that's different" you mean it feels like dining in a hotel, then I'd agree with you.

My feelings, Del Posto is good for lunch, EMP for dinner.

I'm fond of both - it's not like you're going to have a BAD meal at either. Del Posto is a bit more casual in atmosphere, a bit heartier in the food. EMP feels a little more formal, it's more of a production. You're going to have a great meal either way - lucky you, getting two of the hardest-to-get rezzies right now.
