Looking for comforting, delicious takeout soups. I'm making chicken soup at home but could use other soups and also a really nice chicken soup for healing my cold. Preferably, a step above deli, Garden of Eden, even Whole Foods.

Too late for your cold (I hope), but Cafe Medina on W. 17th has the best non-homemade soup I've had anywhere. 4 or 5 regular flavors and 4 or 5 daily specials every weekday, and you can sample as many as you like before ordering. There's something for everyone, but my standbys include african chicken peanut and mexican tortilla soup with chicken meatballs (had that for lunch today). Their Tuscan tomato bread soup is great too, though you should try it before ordering -- it may be too sweet or too chunky for some, kind of like eating a container of really good tomato sauce with a spoon.

Concur with noob. I work in the area and Medina's soup is wonderful. When I have a cold, I get a soup from Medina and a juice from Juice @ Coffee Shop.

Any of their asian-style soups are always winners (e.g., thai chicken).

Last week, they had Turkish Wedding soup (lentil, tomato and mint) which I fell in love with in Turkey this summer. It was just as good as being back.

They also clearly mark things as vegetarian, dairy-free, etc and always have a nice mix so there is always something for all dietary needs.
