Restaurant Cava

Here is my review of Restaurant Cava, the newest venture from Milos owners.
After sitting down, they first brought us an amuse bouche of small souvlaki, tzatziki sauce and a frie all wrap in a homemade pita. Really good to start the evening.

For appetizers, first came the cold appetizer, which was a nice plate of Jamon Iberico, aged for 36 months, silky smooth, not too salty, melting in your mouth! I could have had only that for dinner and would have been happy. This was served with pieces of tomato bread and Comte cheese. Ham was hand cut table side with the ham resting on it's holder.

Then for hot appetizers, we had the Hortopites (phylo dough filled with spinach) and soutzoukakia (veal meatballs in a tomato and curry sauce) again both really good, meatballs nice consistency, not dry at all. Hortopites had a flaky crust, the yogurt based sauce that came with it was perfect.

For main course, I went for the Rib Steak, definitely one of the best steak i had in Montreal, great flavour both from the dry aging and grill cooking, cooked perfectly rare, only drizzled with olive oil and oregano. Other persons at the table had the Giouvetsi (veal shoulder and orzo baked in clay dish) which had a nice lemony flavour, yet a nice punch from the dry goat cheese on top. The Paidakia (Lamb chops) again cooked perfectly, great grill flavour, served with tzatziki. Same sauce that came with the Kota Paidakia (chicken chops) all nice little piece of chicken served on the bone, again nice grill flavour, meat was juicy. All of them except the Giouvetsi came with their Cava fries, fried in olive oil, good but nothing that exceptional imo on that side.

Finished the meal with different deserts again, Svigous (fried dough) with ice cream and sour cherry, great, simple and well executed, absolutely no hint of oil in the fried dough balls, the greek style yogurt with honey and nuts, real good yogurt, really think, a bit sour yet goes well with the honey.

Service was excellent all through the evening, not much ambiance though as the restaurant was quite empty. It’s not the kind of place i would go every week both for budget reasons as it is quite expensive, but would definitely return for a special occasion.

    Great review! I'm vicariously stuffed. How was the tzatziki? Too garlicky? Not enough? Just right? God I love that stuff.

        I am considering it seriously for my birthday next week. I'd love to try something new!
