Dallas dining at the bar
I often eat at the bar, especially at a bar that overlooks the kitchen. My new favorite is the kitchen bar at NOSH followed closely by the bar overlooking Dean's Kitchen at Fearing's. I also like, in no particular order, the following: Stephan Pyle's, Oceanaire, Nonna, Mignon, Houston's (Hillstone), Pappadeaux, and Bolsa. Any I am misssing?

Salum is good. I'd put it in the same general category as Suze and Local - although I definitely prefer Salum to those two. I'm not sure I'd enjoy dining at the bar there... it's pretty small, and not really distinct from the dining room.
with regard to the thread... the only way I really enjoy eating at Neighborhood Services Tavern is at the bar. The main dining room is too cramped, and I don't prefer the high tables and chairs. At the bar, it's easy to forget about all the bustle going on behind you and the bartenders are fun to talk to.

re: gavlist
My inclusion of Salum was due to the fact the entire kitchen is opened up to all the restaurant, and one of the most exposed kitchens in Dallas. There is no room for error in that situation. And the menu is always consistent and fresh. Just sayin'.

Agreed! We always have more fun at the bar. The bartenders def. know what they are doing. The one time they made it their personal mission to make me like gin based drinks, since I told the guy I didn't like gin :). Well, what can I say, I infact do like SOME gin based drinks :-D

I think it was a strawberry one which was a specialty cocktail that evening. There is also gimlet on the drink menu, but now I can't remember if that's gin based or not. Haven't had a drink there that I haven't like actually. This is only the Henderson location...haven't been to the other ones.

So went to NOSH. On the whole good experience...The chef even shaved me a few pieces of the white truffle for me to try! The meat cigars were quite tasty as was the quail. Didn't care for the tart tatin as much, but the ice cream on it was delicious!
The only negative was, we saw one of the guys in the kitchen accidentally drop a pair of tongs on the floor, pick up it, and then use it to cook with it :(. We thought about saying something, but I didn't want to get the guy fired :(

Haven't eaten at the bar at 560, but it is an option. The food is excellent, very good kitchen.

Since often times reservations are impossible at Five Sixty, the bar makes a great option. Same for Victor Tango -- ever try to get in there on a Saturday night with out a 2 hour wait?
Every seat in the house at Salum is bar seating (VERY open kitchen), but there is a bar that is comfortable.
Samar's back bar is a lot of fun and later in the evening when the chefs are winding down they will often toss an 'invention' at you. I forget what they call it, just point. No reservations.
If you are very nice and make a reservation you can get a seat IN the kitchen at Izmir on Greenville. Another oddball table here is outside in that alcove in the parking lot next to the valet stand. Very entertaining late Friday or Saturday.
Parigi. We do not hear much about Parigi. They are amazing, and extremely locavore with a lovely open kitchen and their own in-house artist.
Ava is another kitchen that is open to a select seating at the chef's bar. I believe 4 seats and they will chat you up while they cook.
Pyle's (Fuego!), Dish and Chop House come to mind. I can think of others I am sure.
