Any experience with Tasty Plates caterer? or Tastings?

Hi all,

Does anyone have any experience with Tasty Plates caterer in Winthrop? They're relatively new, but menu looks good and we've heard good things about Kate, who I think used to head catering at East Coast Grill. We're thinking of asking them to cater our wedding next summer.

Would also love input on Tastings in Framingham.

We're looking for great food but also to keep costs reasonable. Have seen several posts on catering in the area but haven't found reference to either of these, so any input is much appreciated!!! (can't-miss recommendations of other caterers that may be a great fit is also welcome, but know this has already been posted about . . . )

Many thanks!

I second that! Wildflour catered my sister's wedding earlier in Sept. and they are catering mine next summer. They are super professional, great to work with, and the food was really good.

I got a quote from Tasty Plates for our wedding, and while they were really nice and presented what seemed to be a good menu, their quote was double the one we got from Wild Flour.

We used TastyPlates for our rehearsal dinner in August. They were awesome. Kate is a true professional, thought of and took care of every single detail. She is amazingly organized. You're right, she and Chris recently parted ways with ECG after spending a very long time with them. The food is delicious, similar to ECG; bold flavors and really fresh ingredients. If you give them an estimate of how much you want to spend, I'm sure they would be able to concoct a menu that would work. They are very creative and really know the ins and outs of the business. Our night was a huge success. I think a big part of it was having Kate there to facilitate the flow of the evening, for example, people tend to linger during the cocktail hour and if you are doing a buffet ( which I would recommend) you need someone to usher tables to the food. Kate did all of this with ease and grace. We didn't have to worry about anything and could just enjoy ourselves throughout. Also, their chorizo and cornbread stuffed clams are AMAZING.

Just saw this - we just used Tastings at our wedding a month ago and they were great. Our guests really enjoyed the food across the board - got lots of compliments. The owner, Sue, is sort of like a wedding doula - she was very accommodating to our foibles and requests, helped out with lots of the details, and was just super-nice to boot. For example, we asked her to do a spin on the Toro-style grilled corn and people really went crazy for it, as in never mind the entrees...that corn was amazing! We felt that the prices were totally reasonable and other than a little bit of hand-holding for the actual table set-up, service-wise they were completely on top of things. I wholeheartedly recommend them.

Where are you having the wedding? Sue also seems to know everyone in the MetroWest area.

Thanks for the note, Bob! The wedding is at the Pierce House in Lincoln, which works with Tastings a lot. We ended up going with Howard Swartz out of Somerville because he was recommended by a number of close friends - but heard lots of great things about Tastings as well! Will certainly keep them in mind for any other event we're arranging. Glad your wedding went well.

Hi EVC - ours was at the Pierce House as well, so congratulations and good luck with Howard - when's the date?
