Mad Mexican on Jane. Open Yet?

Jose Hadad appears to be about to open a restaurant on Jane, a couple of blocks north of Bloor. The last time I looked a couple of weeks ago, they had hiring signs in the window.

Jose is behind the food at Frida, the high end Mexican place on Eglinton, as well as the selection of fresh salsas and chips sold under the Mad Mexican brand at SLM and various smaller fine food places. Rumour has it that this will be somewhat more casual in terms of service and pricing than Frida. Could be very cool.....

Any updates on this? I live in the neighborhood and am dying to find decent Mexican food - transplanted Californian, here.

If the Mad Mexican doesn't open, there is a new mexican place opening close enough in the Junction - La Revolucion.

That's the sum total of the heat and serve line so far. The credibility comes from his work at Frida. And those salsas are a thing of beauty even if you have enough time to make your own.

If it's going to be a mixed use restaurant/retail, that would excite me very much. That trip to Eglinton & Allen has been the only barrier. Love Hadad's stuff. There's a lot of care in every morsel.

Snarf, the new (insert expletive here)'s that now run Instant Caterer at SLM have decided in their widsom to discontinue carrying Mad Mexican products. That's okay. I get it elsewhere and no longer need to enter Instant Caterer. They can have my biz back if they bring MM back.

Loving the emerging trend of midtown restos moving downtown. C'mon on down!

When is that happening? I bought Mad Mexican guacamole and chips at Instant Caterer on October 2. They're also sold by Scheffler's, as well.

IC must have had achange of heart then. We were quite miffed when the new people explained they felt MM's prices were just too high for the SLM crowd. Uh, HuLLOOOO weeee're the SLM crowd.

No, it's not open yet. They've had the signage up for a few months now but every time we walk by, the place looks untouched.

It seems as though the authenticity of this joint is becoming established pre-opening. Brilliant marketing, if you ask me.

Lost you on that one, dude. The authenticity comes from several years of product and restaurant cooking, as well as the pedigree of the chef. The product has been in the marketplace for some time.

It's located between Annette and Bloor on Jane (east side).

Judging by the website, is it going to be a Retail outlet?

As far as I can tell, it's their new business headquarters, and maybe food prep spot. I haven't gone by there yet, though. This is just from looking at every page of their website and coming up empty other than that the Jane St address is their business address.
