Carnitas by the pound [KC]

We're having a party for about 50 and I would like to do a taco bar. Can anyone recommend a place to get carnitas, beans, etc. by the pound in the Kansas City or Topeka area? Thanks!

Thanks for the advice. I might check out the carnicerias - I haven't tried those yet. I think I'm just going to not be lazy and make them myself though.

You can get these at just about any carniceria. I've gotten good carnitas at Carniceria Lupita at 87th & Mastin and at Carniceria Los Compadres at 78th & Quivira

Edit - these places often have fresh tortillas also

Seems like I'm always touting Bichelmeyer's on here, but they have excellent carnitas in quantity on Saturdays. I'd give them a call a day or two in advance to give them a heads up.

Beans? I dunno. Do you have a big stock pot?

        Good luck

ETA, Judy's on Central ave has very good tortillas made fresh on site.

One of the biggest things I miss about KC is the abundance of good tortillas. Could buy great ones even at Hy-Vee. Not so much here in Des Moines, regardless of the fact that there are some pretty stellar Mexican spots here.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but jhojati, I found some corn tortillas at La Tapatia called IowaMex. They're from an address on Indianola Rd. I'm thinking La Pena.
            They're pretty good.

Honestly, if you just contact one of the great local Mexican restaurants, I'm sure that would be your best bet. El Camino Real serves great meat. If you are in need of tortillas, order a bunch from Ninfa's in KCK.
