The House on Parliament

We were in TO on the weekend, staying at a BB on Gerrard E. (242-244). The b&bkeeper gave us a list of restos in the neighbourhood to try. We only had the opportunity to try one - The House On Parliament St. (256 - if I remember correctly.) FABULOUS. We waited 10-15 for a table (around 8 PM). It was obvious that this is a local - I only wish it was my local. Excellent wine by the glass. Good ambiance. My main was the 'port glazed chicken livers with caramalized onions, roesti, and asparagus.' Only failure - the asparagus. NOT in Toronto in September - they come from Peru, they are skinny and tasteless. The rest -superb. My better half had a surf and turf (sounds stuupid but he said the lobster tail was better than anything we had in the Maritimes this summer). The beef was perfectly cooked and his sides were the (ubiquitous) asparagus and excellent garlic mashed potatoes. We had not room for dessert but the coffee was excellent. We'll go again.
