News for Shawarma fans that frequent Lawerence/Warden area

Well, I finished work today and I was starving so I thought Id grab the 2-for-1 Shawarma deal that many of the locations seem to offer. Although I wasnt planning on it, I looked over at Farhat's and to my surprise, the whole place was cleaned out. No signs, empty inside, completely shut down.

Ok, well I figured no big loss, Ibrahims is the better option(im not sure if Shawarma Empire offers 2-for-1 deals or not), so I pulled in. Well, it seems that Ibrahims is now under new management or they just changed the menu and pricing, either way, its more expensive.

First off, 2 Shawarma and a drink now cost almost $11, I think it used to cost around $9. Secondly, the people are nickle and diming us now charging extra for things that used to be included. I asked for Hummos and the chick told me it cost $1 extra now, and it was free a week ago when I went last. Secondly, I asked to get the Shawarma with a mix of Chicken and Beef, which should be simple enough, but nope, that now costs $1 extra.

I just got one chicken and one beef. I gotta say it all tasted great, and I was completely stuffed halfway through the second(beef), but I dont like how they are raising the prices. I guess now that Farhats isnt offering them so cheap, Ibrahims doesnt feel obligated to follow suit...

Anyway, just thought Id let you know, and RIP to the least loved Shawarma place on Lawerence of Arabia!

  1. I believe Farhat's has moved to another location in the same area.

    1. As far as I know, it's always been an extra dollar to have a mixed (chicken and beef) shawarma at Ibrahim. Do you remember the price of the 2 for 1 shawarma deal without a drink. It was $6.99.

I never paid for the mix before, I mean, I got one chicken and one beef anyway, why not mix the meat and put it in, its not like it requires even $1 of additional work or product...

And yea, $6.99 for 2 is what it was, now its 2 for 8.99 I believe, or close to it anyway.

      2. Last Saturday (09/25) I had 2 chicken from Shawarma Empire. Still $6.77 for two shawarma (cash only) and delicious as always.

"Still $6.77"?! They were $5.99 for 2 shawarma for years. I believe I even went this year and it was $5.99 then too! I guess they had to raise their price eventually, but to say that it is still $6.77 sounds odd to me, considering it can't have been that long that it's been that price.

All the same, S.E. is my favorite shawarma place in the GTA, and their 78 cent price increase is negligible to me, so I'll still be going there if I wind up in that area. =)

            kwong: $5.99 + HST = $6.77

I see that now. I didn't immediately think of that because everyone else in the thread is posting pre-tax prices. It makes it hard to compare places by price if some people use pre-tax and others are using post-tax.

Maybe in the future, specify which you're using if it's different from everyone else? Thanks!

        2. I just tried both SE and Ibrahim for the first time last week, and Ibrahim was much more expensive compared to SE for a sandwich that wasn't nearly as good.

2 chicken sandwiches, a small pop can and a container of rice ran me over 15 bucks..

they are much bigger at ibrahims though.

They're bigger, but not as tasty in my opinion. They're not bad, but given the choice, I'd go to SE first, Nasib's second, and Ibrahim's third if I'm in the area.

          2. I'm working my way through that area and so far my rankings are as follows. Nasib's followed by Ibrahim's followed by Shawarma Empire.

All are great choices but here are a few things. I find the meat to be roughly the same amount but the smaller pita at SE means less toppings. To much toppings at Ibrahim so the middle (Nasib's) is perfect.

Nasib's garlic sauce is the best. Ibrahim's hot sauce is the best.

I prefer the wrapped style not the clam shell style at SE.

SE's meat was spiced differently. Almost like curried. Very good but not my favourite.

Nasib's were easily the nicest staff as well.

            More to follow.
