Preferred Restaurants of Scottsdale & Phoenix

I just got an offer for a card from "Preferred Restaurants of Scottsdale & Phoenix". The deal is for $49 you get a card that entitles you to one free entrée if another is bought at certain restaurants for a year. the restaurants listed are not bad: Bourbon steak, Deseo, Estate house, TPC grill, J & G, Lon's, Prado, T cooks...
If true, seems like a no brainier.
Has anyone heard of this, or is it a scam?

thanks,

  1. I have been participating with the program for years. It is legit. Have never had an issue using the discount as long as I follow the particular rules of each place (dates/times). I find that the discount pretty much covers the tip I would leave when dining for two.

      Great.thanks for the info.

I didn't see date and time restrictions (but did expect them). how restrictive are they?

      1. re: Goofy Yno

Some places have no restrictions, some have dates (e.g. no Saturdays or holidays), months (e.g. valid everyday May-Sep and Oct-Apr valid Sun-Thu or before 6:30pm Fri and Sat); things like that. I have not been overly concerned with the restrictions. Most all restrict holidays.

And YES please tip on the bill prior to the discount being applied if it's not already included.

    2. I work at one of the participating restaurants, it is a real thing. Generally, our date restrictions are only for dining out holidays (e.g. New Year's Eve, Valentine's Day, Mothers' Day, et al.), and it doesn't work on prix fixe deals (e.g. Restaurant Week). Some places (ours included) will tack the gratuity on before the check is presented; review the check to make sure if they did or not before adding on one of your own. If they didn't add a gratuity, please remember to tip based on the amount of the check BEFORE the discount.

When doing any "coupon" dining, I always ask for the "regular charge," as I want to tip on what the bill would have been. If I have some sort of discount, I do not want that considered, except for my final bill. It is the same for a comp'ed meal. The server does the same work, regardless of how I might pay for the evening.

        Just my feelings,

      2. I would do this for Deseo, Lon's, T. Cook's and probably Estate House (have not been yet). For the others, I would easily pass.

Since I am a Phoenix resident, no one offers such to the riff-raff, like me. [Grin]
