Big View in Charlotte - Big Bummer

  • 2

We went for the second and last time on Saturday. Considering there literally seemed to be one server for every diner, I would have expected great service. We were seated at 11 and were given breakfast menus. I asked for the lunch menu and the waitress stared at my in total confusion. She said she'd go see if we could order off that menu. She came back 5 minutes later, put some lunch menus on our table and asked if we were ready to order. WTF? She came back a while later and took our order. I wasn't very hungry and asked for the french onion soup. One kid got a meatball sub, the other a Western omelet, and my husband got some kind of a big breakfast combo. It all arrived cold and inedible. What a bummer. And it wasn't cheap either! Why can't I get a good breakfast in Carlotte?

  1. It's such a shame that this place isn't better. How it could be a sister restaurant to Ilios Noche and Nolen Kitchen is beyond me. The only great thing about Big View is the decor. They did a nice job capturing that Bob's Big Boy diner feel with the tiles, booths, color palate and light fixtures. The baked goods are pretty good also. They need a major food and service overhaul though. The bartenders are some of the worst (come to think of it some of the ones at Ilios Noche are pretty awful too). I guess you have to consider that in that area of town, standards are pretty low. But you would've thought the guys in the Stratos restaurant group would have higher standards. Come on guys!

I don't get it. They took so long to build it and obviously took trouble decorating it (although my husband and I agreed the whole place was reminiscient of school field trips to the United Nations). Unlike our first visit where we waited for a few minutes for a table, we were seated right away last week. No crowds. Not good.
