Walking distance "deals" near the Fontainebleau???
Going to the FB for a conference with a budget-minded friend (that sounds better than "cheap"!). We'll only be there two nights and will be sans automobile, so looking for ideas.
I definitely would love to get some cuban food if any is near there, but any moderate-priced suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

Walking distance, deals and Fountainbleau should not be in the same sentence!!!
I agree with the 1st poster, those are your only options, unless you walk south 1.5 blocks on the northbound side of Collins, there is a subway in the lobby of one of the small hotels.
That's it!
I did overhear some ppl at the hotel once, talking about getting delivery from some Mexican place on South Beach.
Maybe ask the concierge who delivers from South Beach. They were less than helpful though, when I asked them about their OWN restaurants Spice menu, good luck!

If you are there now, check out the in-house restaurants to catch the tail-end of Miami Spice (Hakkasan, Gotham Steak and Scarpetta did a good job on the $35 dinner this summer).
If you are here after October 1, I would still look for 'promos' at those restaurants. For example, Gotham Steak had a half-price on wine bottles deal on (I think) Monday nights.
And even if there are no deals, you have to hit Scarpetta for their polenta appetizer - it is so filling it is a meal in itself, qualifying it as a "deal".

The area around the Fontainebleau is not ideal walking territory as you're surrounded by hotels and condos along Collins Avenue. On Arthur Godfrey Road are a few options, none particularly exceptional: Roasters n Toasters (Jewish-ish deli), Pita Hut (Middle Eastern), Chicken Kitchen (OK fast-food-ish grilled chicken place, though a Chop Chop is not the worst fast food lunch you can have). There is a Cuban restaurant on Arthur Godfrey Road but I don't recall the name and have never been.
If you're willing to take a taxi up to 71st Street area, there are many more options, most pretty inexpensive - Sazon for Cuban, El Rey de Chivito for Uruguayan, La Perrada de Edgar for Colombian hot dogs, Buena Vista Bakery for Argentine baked goods, Moises Bakery for Venezuelan baked goods, Las Vacas Gordas a bit more inland for Argentine parrillada ... I've mapped out several here ->
