downtown LA restaurants

Will be in LA for USC parent's weekend, would like recommendations for california fresh food, fun, hopefully not too expensive places to take our son. Coming from the midwest. Love seafood, but Water Grill is probably outside our budget.

We arrive on Sept 30th and leave on the 3rd, was SO DISAPPOINTED the DIne LA doesn't coincide!!

I think Lazy Ox Canteen does well for "fresh."
