Best Madeleines?

I love a good madeleine with my afternoon coffee. I've tried La Boulange (decent), and some of the pre-packaged varieties sold at espresso shops [generally awful); so far my fave is the La Farine version.

I don't know whether the local madeleines are Marcel Proust quality, but wonder if any local 'hounds have a favorite or recommendation--preferably in SF or the East Bay.

  1. If anyone has the recipe used by Curds & Whey (long gone Oakland gourmet deli), they are my all-time favorites.

    1. I liked the one I had a while ago at La Bedaine. I don't think he makes them every day.

      1. Darn, I was right by La Farine yesterday and should have tried one! I usually rely on the Boulange one (decent like you said, and accessible), but really liked ones I had at Patisserie Philippe. They make them everyday I believe.
