Peanut Butter Ice Cream

Hi there Chowhounds,
I'm recipe testing for a friend, and one recipe I am making calls for peanut butter ice cream. I don't know about you, but I've never come across plain peanut butter ice cream, aside from a homemade recipe. Does anyone know of any brands that make this, and if so, where in the Bay Area I might be able to score it? Many thanks in advance...

La Copa Loca in SF has plain peanut butter gelato. They don't always have all their flavors but if you call ahead they could probably make a batch.

Three Twins has a peanut butter ice cream, but I think it might have chocolately bits in it. It's good, though! Good luck.

Don't know where you are located, but I buy it at the Berkeley Farmers' Mkt. Tuesday and Saturday.

Mitchell's has "peanut butter indulgence" but frankly, I've not had it. I did have another flavor -- maybe 'moose tracks'? -- that featured peanut butter and I do recall that being really excellent.

Tucker's in Alameda does a chocolate ice cream with peanut butter stripes in it: it's a yum, BUUUUT that's not why I came here today. Not ice cream, but I had the peanut brittle sorbet from Scream Sorbet today at the Temescal market and it was INCREDIBLE. I can't imagine any peanut butter ice cream being any better than this. It was creamy and rich and so peanutty. It was incredible and I am not at all a sorbet fan (too icy), and am obsessed with ice cream and this is now topping my list of best "ice cream" I've had this year.

PS: nothing "brittle" about it. Ingredients are peanuts, salt, sugar and water and it is a smoooooooth texture.

It's a Goody-- Double Rainbow has great peanut butter flavor but it also has chocolate chunks.

BiRite Creamery had PB&J ice cream the other day when I was there. Didn't try it though.

Mr and Mrs Miscellaneous makes a good PB and J when they have it, but it isn't my favorite of their flavors. I really like their shop though...

Scream has amazing stuff. I get it at the San Leandro Market on Wednesdays.

Perhaps one of the true tests of this recipe will be the ease with which one can find PB ice cream! :)
