Fatted Calf open in Hayes Valley
Made it in yesterday, the first day the doors opened. All my favorites were there in gleaming cases and with the proximity I look forward to trying something new as well.
Like Oxbow, there is a some space devoted to drygoods and a small dairy offering.
The new shop is on Fell Street at Gough.

From today's newsletter: "Join us this coming Wednesday at Fatted Calf on Fell Street for our next Pork Happy Hour from 5:30 to 7 pm. We'll be butchering an acorn fed Becker Lane Pig in the store from 5:30 to 7 o'clock. Choose your chops and roasts and have them cut and marinated while you enjoy a glass of vino and a snack with the crew at Fatted Calf."

re: Robert Lauriston
I hit the Wednesday happy hour at Fatted Calf last night. Quite a few others did too. They offered beer in little tumblers and had platters of snacks including pastrami bocadillos with caramelized onions and ricotta crostini with artichoke confit. Plus truffled popcorn.
I had the meatloaf sandwich which was tasty if a little dry -- they're pre-made, so I see why they don't want to add too much condiment-wise. It had coarse grain mustard on it but could've used a little more moisture. But I had no problem finishing it.
I'll try to add a photo of the picnic plate which my friend had and enjoyed, but noted some type of cheese would've been a welcome addition. We took these and some waters around the corner to Octavia Green and enjoyed the warm evening.

Is there any seating at the Fell St. store? (The better to enjoy one of their meatloaf sandwiches at its freshest?)

re: lmarie
Made the trip in the rain for the meatloaf sandwich yesterday and it was worth it. Pre-made which was a worry for me on the soggy-factor, but wasn't a problem. Only quibble would be the inclusion of lettuce on the sandwich as IMHO there's no place for lettuce with meatloaf.
There is a bench in the front window to sit on - not sure if that was their intention but no one shoo'ed us off it yesterday. It actually was more of a storage cupboard of some sort but the right height to sit on.
Certainly made me wish I lived closer to have access to their meat-y deliciousness all the time!

I didn't get the sandwich, i just bought a quarter pound of meatloaf (at the Napa store) and devoured it on their patio.
