9th Avenue near Theatre District?

Looking for help from you NY Hounds!

I'm coming to NY next week and I'm looking for a good place to eat on 9th Avenue near the theatre district.

The kick is I will be with my stepmother who is not the most adventurous of diners, though she likes good food. So I'm afraid any Afghan-Burmese-Nepalese-etc suggestions, while intriguing to yours truly, probably won't work.

Whaddya think's good on 9th Avenue or thereabouts?

Thanks in advance.

Esca is a great place and close to the theatres.

You should try Marseille (9th Ave. & W. 44 St.) for French (brasserie-style) food. The food is very good and should be fine for your stepmother. You should check the menu on menupages.com to be certain.

I agree- Marseille is wonderful. I usually take my parents there before we go to see a show.

Marseille is fine, serving good french/mediterranean food in a bustling bistro settting. For a quieter venue in the same general area, we also like West Bank Cafe on 42nd and 9th, which serves contemporary American cuisine with some Italian touches (love the lemon-pepper pappardelle with duck ragu).

Both restaurants have solid service and are priced moderately by NYC standards.
