How often to change the WATER filter on your coffeemaker?
This is embarrassing, but I will admit - have had my Krups coffee maker for 7-8 years now and it worked perfectly until 1-2 months ago. All of a sudden what used to be a whole carafe of coffee steamed away first to 7 cups, then 6 cups, and finally just to one. Last week it got to one cup and I had enough. I haved cleaned it many times through the years with Dip-It or vinegar. Like a lot of people, I threw the instruction book away years ago without reading it. I even solicited reqs for a new coffeemaker.
Long story short, I discovered there is a separate chamber, which was locked, containing a charcoal (?) filter. I looked at it, it was grungy and awful. Looked on the Internet, and discovered it was a WATER filter which needed to be replaced. Now, the coffee maker works like a dream. The coffee doesn't taste different, but the filter must have been plugged causing most of the water to steam away.
So, for future reference - how often to change the water filter? I assume I shouldn't wait 7 or 8 years. Thanks!
