Sunday brunch for big group including infant

  • 7

Hi all, my husband and I are coming to Philly this weekend with our 3 month old and are trying to get a bunch of people together for brunch on Sunday. Where would be a good place for a group of 12 (plus baby) for a casual Sunday brunch in Philly (anywhere in rittenhouse, old city, center city, etc would be fine)? (a bonus if they have real maple syrup available for pancakes!)

  1. I don't know if these places take reservations for brunch (which I highly recommend in this situation) but they spring to mind as good or pretty good places that aren't insanely crowded on Sundays and could fit a large group:

    Farmacia in Old City
    Rx in West Philly
Marathon Grill (a few locations in Center City)
    Cantina los Caballitos (South Philly)

If you're willing spend a little bit more and go slightly more upscale, also not sure on kid friendly options:
    Distrito in West Philly
    Tinto by RIttenhouse

Not all in your target area but not very far either.

Thanks. Anyone on the board know about kid-friendliness of any of the places recommended?

If the ony kid is the infant, I wouldn't worry too much about it. In my experience, babies are easy pretty much anywhere there is room for the carrier (until they get bigger/more alert/more demanding of attention). Any of the places mentioned should be fine at brunch time, with the possible exception of Tinto.

That said, I recommend Distrito. The food is yummy, it's a fun place for a group, and lots of visual interest for the baby. Check out the menu and see if it appeals.

    2. We have been taking our daughter to Sunday Brunch at Tavern on Green in Fairmount ever since she was an infant. We always have a great experience, the staff is so friendly, its never overly crowded and the food is great (try their brunch mussels!). I'm not sure if your infant eats solids yet but their sweet potato hummus was my daughters favorite when she was just eating purees.

I think Tavern on Green may be closed. I'd consider going to Continental Midtown. I wouldn't worry about bring the baby anywhere. People in Philly bring babies to pretty much any restaurant.

Its called the Belgian Cafe now, owned by the same person that owns monks. I just keep calling it by its former name, sorry!

      2. I see large groups at Cafe Estelle with infants all the time... so perhaps they take reservations for large parties? It's convenient for those who need to drive, but it's a little outside of your parameters.

Oh, also, the food is awesome.
