Fairway olive oil on sale

LNG212 Sep 23, 2010 10:06 AM

Just a quick FYI ... I didn't even notice a sign or anything but this morning I got the 1 litre of regular Fairway olive oil for $5.99. A great price for what I consider to be a very good everyday-type olive oil (it is usually $8.99).

That's good to know. Fairway's olive oil is quite good although we have been buying the Tuscan oil at Costco lately for $12.99 and it is excellent.

Yeah, that is a good price. I just paid $8.99 a week or so earlier for the same oil. :(

I meant to post yesterday but never got around to it. Fairway took out a full-page ad on the last page of yesterday Times' Dining section. I've never seen them advertise like this; an interesting coincidence to TJ's grand opening this week.

In addition to the olive oil, the ad had these specials:

Fairway organic milk 1/2 gallon $2.99
Fairway raw or toasted almonds $4.49 / lb
Fairway supreme blend coffee $4.99 / lb

Figures I bought a liter last weekend for the regular price. I will have to watch for specials now. No harm in them ramping up their game a little.

Hell, even the Pioneer (ahem) over on Columbus suddenly left a pile of dolled-up color sales sheets from the local store in front of my building!

I've never seen the print ads like this either. But they do a lot of online stuff -- twitter, email newsletters, etc. And then there are those awesome coupons that come in the mail (seemingly with no rhyme or reason as to when).

And I never saw a sign in the store either about the sale. I picked it up because I needed it (and this was a week I could carry it). It was only in looking at the register and then Reine (cashier) said it was on sale.

The cheese guy I talk with in the morning said he thought this (TJ) was why they rearranged the bulk aisles upstairs -- more competition.

Is this sale at the UWS location or uptown? Any info on when the sale on olive oil ends?

The oil's on sale uptown at least. The signs in the store didn't indicate an end date.

I went to 74th St. But the ad that uwsgrazer mentions from the newspaper says both UWS and Harlem locations. No idea when it might end.
