Just had an excellent dinner at this very elegant restaurant...when you are headed to Bordeaux this would be an excellent and rewarding stop...the ambiance is superior (overlooking the Loire), the service is exemplary, the food is delicious, and the wine list is a small novel...Bon appetit.

Well, the Amboise I know is about 450 kilometers from Bordeaux, a lot closer to Paris than Bordeaux. But it is a lovely town, a great situation right on the Loire, a magnificent castle, the very interesting last home of Leonardo da Vinci (Clos Lucé) and some great Vouvray caves nearby.

A wonderful restaurant destination in Amboise is Le Pavillon de Lys, a gorgeous garden setting with only 2 menus (prix fixe) a regular and a vegetarian option. About 4 courses each. Another good option right under the Chateau is L'Epicerie, with traditional Touraine cuisine.
