Looking for Dragon beard candy and dough figurines in the SGV

THere used to be fellows with little carts - in front of a ding ho market in Alhambra, in the courtyard at the Empress Pavilion complex in Chinatown. One would make the Dragon Beard Candy with spun sugar and peanuts, the other (they weren't there together) would make little dough figurines, a parrot, a panda, etc.

Has anyone seen these or similar sellers in the SGV or in CHinatown by any chance?

  1. oh wow! i didn't even know they had these in alhambra. it's been years since i've seen dragon beard candy. i hope someone answers this post!

    1. I had the long so tong in china and they were good. Haven't had any fresh ones here. When I was in SF everyone was selling the package kind from Macau. They had some funky flavors and kinda expensive...Let me know if anyone else know of any fresh ones around here.

      1. every once in a long while, i will see it at the focus plaza 99 ranch. there will be an old man with a cart just inside by the fruits and veggie section where they keep the other special carts (ladies selling mochi covered in peanut powder or the fish shaped buns filled with red bean).

try visiting near a big chinese holiday. i seem to remember the last time i saw it was during chinese new year.

when is this usually? (weekdays and time?) cause when i go to the 99 ranch, they usually don't have carts. or do you mean at the drink stand which is by the produce section? still, i don't see cart sellers for like red bean buns or any of the sort when i tend to go...

After you walk in on your right side where they make the sushi and fruit drinks is where they normally have the stands but havent seen the candy

that's what i was thinking. although most of the time, when i go, they don't usually have any other stand than the drinks and sushi.

in the waaaaaay past i have seen before, but they varied between by the drink stand or by the hot deli. nowadays i don't see them anymore...
