SF residents looking for new places to try for double dates, to please vegetarian and omnivores.

We have lived in SF for 20 years, and dined at most of the usual suspects (Gary Danko, Greens, Coi, Fleurs de Lys, Acqurello, La Folie, Perbacco, Manresa, Beretta, Incanto, dining rooms at Ritz, Sheraton Palace, Luce, Gitane, Azziza, Dosa, Town Hall, Ubuntu, Maya, Foreign Cinema, Kokkarri, Quince, Baker and Banker, Palio D'Asti, Slanted Door and many more)
We are looking for newer places to try with another couple where we could hear each other on a weekend night.
These are the "restrictions":
It should be within the SF City limits.
One person is a vegetarian, who eats no fish, fowl, seafood. or meat, but enjoys dairy and eggs. They do not want to just show up, and be given a platter of boring vegetables. They want at least one entree to choose from on the menu. They are tired of showing up to a restaurant where they have given notice, and presented with options such as pasta with a vegetarian sauce.
The other three diners prefer meat or seafood, and do not want a night out at Greens, Ubuntu, etc.
Price is less important than good food, ability to talk to one another, and a nice atmosphere. Mid level priced restaurants would be the preference. (ie, about 50 to 75 USD per person including a three course meal, a reasonably priced wine, taxes, service, and the health surcharge.)

Pleasing the vegetarian is key. We have looked at a number of new menus from Frances, Salt House, Cafe des Amis, Wayfare Inn, Prospect, etc, and there are no entrees for the vegetarians. This seems to be the case on many of the new hot spots.
We trust the Chowhounds and know that your recommendations are stellar.
Any suggestions for us?
Thank you so much.

  1. Firefly always has a vegetarian option and a vegan option so there would be two choices and I have frequently found them to be appealing even to a carnivore.
They change the menu weekly but list it on their site and do a good job of updating (unlike far too many restaurants I check the online menus for and then get a completely different menu when I actually arrive).

    1. Tony's for the new coal fired pizza?

Agree that it's tough out there. My sister is veg and the rest of us aren't; finding good places is annoying.

      1. Take a look at the menus for Bisou & Alegrias; haven't been to the latter. Loved the food, the staff and vibe at Bisou. It wouldn't hurt to call if you have any concerns, they were so friendly!

Someone just recommended Zarzuelas (tapas) for drinks & eats on another thread. Unfortunately, menu is not online; may be they could fax you a copy. Hmm, not sure about the loudness factor though.
