30" Gas Range - Viking or Jenn-Air Pro?
The local appliance store has both of these floor models on for an incredible price (making them comparable to the dual-fuel GE Cafe, Electro Lux and regular Jenn-Air models I was looking at before) I hadn't thought I could afford a professional style range before.
Now I"m trying to decide between the two. I had thought the Viking would be a no-brainer but having read some comments on-line now I"m wondering if they really are as durable as their reputation claims.
The Jenn-Air come highly recommended by my brother-in-law who loves his. And the dual-burner is a nice feature. It's also got a slightly larger oven.
I really want to try and buy a durable range that is going to perform well and not need lots of servicing. Any thoughts?
I have had a Viking cooktop for about 10 years and I love it. I have never had to call for service.
I have a friend who got a Jenn-Air range at about the same time and hated it. She had so much trouble with both the oven and burners that she got rid of it and got the Viking. She loves it. She has had it for about 5 years now and it is still great.
I don't think my friend's Jenn-Air was the Pro style, but I can't be sure. All I know is that the repair guy was out frequently. He said the Jenn-Airs are not of the same quality as they used to be.
If you let "Consumer Reports" be your guide, you will look for option "C". CR puts out a Kitchen issue where they report on the reliability of many brands, neither of these are near the top, or even middle for that matter. I've got two issues of the CR Kitchen report, but can't remember what time of year this magazine comes out. You can't always go 100% with them on everything, but the reliability survey is a long term very good indicator of the potential for problems. It's worth trying to track one of these down in my opinion.
Viking! I also bought a floor model on discount and was choosing between Dacor/ Jenn Air. Glad we went with the Viking. Never had a problem with it.
