Breakfast - Times Square area

Hello -

We don't mind paying $$$$ for a great dinner, but we do object to paying that much for plain old breakfast. We will be in NYC for a week and staying at 49th and Broadway. So far, we have heard about Cafe Edison, Pigalle and The Brooklyn Diner. Are these places good or would you suggest other? Also, what about Clintons, I understand they have great pancakes. ?
Thank you so much.

The Clintons about which you heard has great pancakes is Clinton St. Baking Co., which does indeed have great pancakes but is nowhere near Times Sq.

I like Brooklyn Diner. It's touristy and on the expensive side for breakfast but the food is high quality. I am a Brooklyn Boy at heart so it's emotional too.
That being said, walk on over to 9th Ave and then North. You'll find several good and reasonable breakfast/brunch places. For early morning try Rt 66.
Or, get the heck out of Times SQ and explore some of the outstanding breakfast recs on CH. My favorites Penelope's and Clinton St Baking Co.

There's Le Pain Quotidien on 50th betwen 6th and 7th. You can have a hot breakfast there or if the weather's nice, I'd pick up croissants and coffee there and eat at Rockefeller Center.

People seem to like the Red Flame diner off 6th ave on 44th maybe?. I've heard both Ted Allen and Gail Simmons sing its praises for whatever strange reason. I'd go to Cafe Edison for the setting rather than the food.
