Help, I am thinking of hosting a 20's themed/Gatsby Cocktail party. The food will be heavy app's with a combination of hand passed and a buffet table. I need help w/menu item ideas. Any assistance would be awesome.

    Check out this site.

    1. This site has some pretty fascinating stuff on food/menus over the decades:

      1. I did a Roaring 20s/Barbary Coast themed party for a client a few years ago. Here's the menu:

Smoked Salmon Roses with Dill on Rye Crostini
        Petite Chicken Cordon Bleu
Mini Beef Wellingtons: Beef tenderloin medallions with Shiitake, Oyster and Button Mushroom cream duxelle, seasoned with Shallots, Thyme and Garlic, in a flaky French puff pastry
        Lemon-Herb Chicken Drummettes
Escargot en Brioche: Mini brioche shells filled with Succulent Escargot, Garlic and Butter

        Carving Stations:
Roast Loin of Veal Filled with Spinach, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Ricotta and Pine Nuts
Roast Loin of Pork Filled with Harvest Fruits, with Calvados Sauce
        served with Assorted Petite Rolls

Smashed Potato Bar: Toppings to include Chili, Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Chives, Sour Cream and Sweet Butter, Served in Martini Glasses

Deluxe Import and Domestic Cheese Display
        Deluxe Crudités Assortment
        Assorted Mini Cheesecakes and Tartlets

The attendees were all owners/employees of hardware stores from all around the country. They loved the mashed potato bar. I think the escargot was a reach for them (had lots left over at the end of the night). The client did very luxe decor, think crushed velvet drapery and seating. A good time was had by all.

        1. This page is obviously old, but I thought with the new film there might be a revival... This page has a full menu, and links to recipes, with an emphasis on apps:
