Midi Bistro - Disappointed

The two of us went there yesterday. It is a very simple bistro, a bit in need of upgrading. We went there because of the rave reviews I had read on the Net, but we were disappointed. Nice welcome, but we were the only ones in the restaurant... My friend had the sweet potato soup; I had the Gravlax ($8.50 each) My friend did not comment about the soup. The gravlax was very good. We both took the 1 lb mussels. ($14.50 each) The french fried were excellent, allumette style, but the mussels (1 lb each)were the tiny type and they were rubbery. I had to leave quite a few of them because they had not open. My friend took a crème brûlée. I skipped dessert. .Between the two of us we had 3 glasses of white wine. Total, including tax (tip extra) was $104.00 - IMO far too much for what it was. It is the wine that raised the bill to these proportions...
See my review about Victoria Restaurant at King Eddie. That's som, ething else !

My experiences at Midi have mostly been meh as well. Food is not bad, but there are other French options in this city that are just so much better (and I tend to agree that the price seems steep for what one gets) . Le Select, Jules, La Palette are all a better overall experience IMHO.

I'm normally a fan of Midi Lunch specials, not so much of dinner. They changed ownership over the summer and recently re-opened. The menu looks the same, except that everything is more expensive. I guess this is the first review of the new ownership!

I didn't realize that Midi was under new ownership. My review should probably be taken with a grain of salt then since I haven't been since the spring.

I had checked in today, but it was packed and I didn't want to wait. The food and menu are pretty much the same, except for the aforementioned price hike. I think your previous analysis was pretty accurate, especially since the waitress had told me that they weren't planning on changing anything. It's good food for a convenient lunch if you're in the area, but it's not destination dining, and it's definitely an expensive dinner for what you get.

Hey, I peeked in there today too!! I have enjoyed both lunch and dinner there with the previous dinners. Too bad about the price hike, though. I've been waiting for them to re-open.

I loved the Midi lunch specials as well; dinner was mediocre to good depending on what you ordered. I'm very sad to hear about the price hike (the standard prix fixe dinner was a good deal). Did not realize ownership was changing.
