Surrey Indian Food Recommendation
I have to go out to Surrey in the next couple of days and I thought I would try and find some good Indian food for lunch. . Not really looking for buffet; prefer spicy curries. Any recommendations welcomed I will be in the 128th St and 80th Ave area but willing to drive for good food.
Thanks
Phil

We went to Dashkin; thanks Ben. There was just two of us so we could not test the menu widely. We ordered lamb biryani and andra kodi kura, a tradional chicken curry. Both dishes were well spiced and prepared. The biryani had a nice burn to it but contained a bunch of lamb on bone pieces that were mainly bone. I know that is traditional but I prefer some nice tender lamb morsels. The curry was a generous serving and very tasty . Overall I think the place has promise and would return to try some of the vegetarian and sea food dishes as well as the chicken curry lineup.
THe restaurant is modern, clean and could accommodate large groups.

I've been to Mahek http://www.mahek.ca/ and thought it was good. It has been ages though. The ambiance was more like a pub than a restaurant if I recall.

Hey, have you guys heard of Dakshin before? They are on King George Hwy and 80th.
Just today, I was speaking with a group of contractors from India who had been here working for the past year. I asked them which restaurant that they had like the most and closest to what they had at home ... and everyone of them said Dakshin. I hardly go to Surrey but I might just want to go and check it out ... someday.
They said that the briyani rice is to die for and it is about $9-$10. Hyderabad food (not that I know how to describe it!). They said that Dakshin used to be expensive but they had lowered their prices which I thought was hard to believe.

It would be cool to find some really tasty Indian food. I still pine for Mr Shah and his good wife's lovely food. Dakshin, you say? Does Surrey qualify as a road trip? :-) Seriously, though, the SO is out that way a lot (like tomorrow for example) so I've passed on this rec to him.
