Best Place to Dine Outdoors
The summer is coming to an end, and I want to spend every minute I can outside. Sadly, there aren't a lot of nice places to eat outside. I've always found this to be a serious failing of the New Haven area. You'd think, what with all this shoreline, there would be some nice places to eat by the water.
This is why I'm such a fan of River View BBQ on the Housatonic River in Seymour. The BBQ is good and the view is gorgeous. I took some photos today. (My work takes my up that way at least twice a month.) Sadly, they are closed on Mondays. And I do not know how much longer they will be open this year.
I'd love to know of other nice outdoor restaurants. If you have some favorites, please share. And if you have access to a digital camera, upload some pictures!
And, obviously, the food needs to be good.
Great pics--I see why you're so drawn to River View! Let us know if you hear when they close for the season. Right there with you, btw, I've long lamented our lack of outdoor dining options, especially near the shore. Even a great place for drinks and snacks would be a step in the right direction.
Here are a couple of threads to consider to get you started--not all outside, but still good readin':
Best CT restaurant with a view
I haven't been to Morning Glory Cafe in Old Lyme YET, but Dorie Greenspan blogged about it this summer and it's on my wish list of places to try:

I guess my favorite for outside eating is the big back deck at Lenny's on Indian Neck in Branford.overlooking the salt marsh where the ospreys nest. You can enjoy great fried clams and oysters (my favorite) or a lobster roll while watching the giant birds caring for their young.
205 S Montowese St, Branford, CT 06405
RE: New Haven: Leon's and Sage are worth going to for the view; Sage being a little better, being at the marina. Sadly the food at both can be good to mediocre, but seldom great. I go and take my chances and I (usually) know what not to get .
