unpretentious bar, flatiron area

baron218 Sep 19, 2010 07:43 PM

Hi all, looking for an unpretentious bar in the Flatiron area. Can be Chelsea, Meatpacking area too. Would like to arrange a get together for 20 or so friends, so really the only requirement is that it isn't too crowded at 9-10pm when everyone shows up. - i.e., no line.

The Flatiron Lounge is cute but might be too small for 20 people at that time of the night - but it's a cool place!

Love Flatiron Lounge but around 9, 10pm it does get really crowded and not everybody wants to pay that much for cocktails. You can, however, reserve the downstairs room.

How about Dewys Flatiron. No line, not pretentious and can accomodate 20 very easily. You guys can go upstairs and have you run of the joint.

Punch, at B'way and 21st, has an upstairs room that might fit the bill for you. Not especially pretentious, good food and drink, and a purpose-built space for 20+.

[P.S. Almost anything in that neighbourhood will have some whiff of pretension to it, no matter what you do -except maybe Old Town on 18th.]

Isnt there a cover charge and velvet rope at Punch Upstairs on the weekend?

Gosh, prince, I honestly don't know.
That there might be certainly makes sense for that neighbourhood, but I've never encountered it there.

How about Dusk? Is that too neighborhood-dive? But they have one-way bathroom mirror wall....

Thanks all for the sugestions, I think we are going with Flatiron Lounge. I called and they said they could hold the downstairs room for part of the night for us.

the ainsworth? You know, you give up some things to accomodate others, but this could certainly hold 20 of you, and is a fine place, prob no line etc.
