Hudson, NY dinner (or perhaps surrounding town?)
Hi everyone ...
In a couple weeks, we will be taking a drive up to do some antiquing in Hudson, NY. I checked out Swoon Kitchen Bar website, and this looks interesting. Does anyone have any better recommendations? We are also willing to travel outside of Hudson ... we only live about an hour south and are doing a little day trip.

Okay everyone, had to check back in and tell you! ;-)
So we were strolling down Warren St. this past Saturday am and planned to have lunch at Swoon Kitchenbar or Bob's suggestion (wish I would have seen Carolina House suggestion, might have done dinner there!) anyway ... walking by Le Gamin Country and I do a double take as I see Mario Batali sitting there. So, my boyfriend had to pull me down the street and I did slightly stalk the place for a while to see if he was coming out anytime soon, but eventually I gave up.
I did hear him say to an elderly woman he was dining with that she had eaten something there "last time" so he must have been there more than once, so of course this called for a change in plans and we had a late lunch there. It was very good, we just had the special salad and sandwiches. Service was not good at all, but the servers were the owner's teenage children soooo what can you do. I had to try the Creme Brulee, which was just okay. I had it at Les Halles (nyc) the evening before though which is my absolute fave Creme Brulee so I could be biased.
(And this is why I am back to eating salad today for lunch, haha)
Anyway, just thought it was neat I spotted him there and wanted to share! As always - thanks for your suggestions!

I agree. Carolina House is definitely the best value in Columbia county, charming with delicious food. If you don't mind spending more, Swoon is worth considering, as is Da/Ba. Swiss Hutte in Hillsdale is also excellent if a bit pricey, though the price of a main course includes a nice salad. A bit father afield (but closer to home for you), Madalin's Table in Tivoli and Mercato in Red Hook are both excellent.
