Looking for a recommendation for a spot that would be open early morning (7am) near Gare de Lyon where we could pick up some morning and afternoon snacks for our 6 hour train ride down to Nice (breakfast pastries, panini, etc?)...

There's not much there. Last time we used that gare we carried things with us in a sack from rue Montorgueil and bought hot coffee for our travel mugs in the gare.

Agreed. That's pretty early to find anything open but the cafe on the train level floor. Maybe you can get durable stuff like kougnaman, bostock, etc., the night before.

OK thanks for the tips. Is there at least a spot open for coffee and a small "hold me over" in the train station (no need for it to be memorable, just functional!)...?

          Pas que je sache.
I was just thru it twice in 24 hours and saw mainly second-rate coffee/pastry outlets.
As I said, buy something nice the day before, buy crappy coffee in the Gare and travel 1st classe (they now flash up an offer of 2 E plus to upgrade, who can resist?)
